Honeysuckle Pull at the Arboretum
Please help the Acton Arboretum defeat the invasion of the Honeysuckles! About half of it has already been removed, so the battle is in full force. We will cut down, dig out the roots, and stack the brush for a wildlife haven. Here is some information about the Bush Honeysuckle: https://mdc.mo.gov/trees-plants/problem-plant-control/invasive-plants/bush-honeysuckles-control Please bring work gloves, loppers, small bow saws, and drinking water. Contact me so I know how many volunteers to expect.

Think it is too cold and wintery to volunteer on our Acton conservation lands? Think Again! Please join us on Saturday March 18, 1 - 3 PM to help clean up this eyesore at the Acton Arboretum. The old bog boardwalk was replaced by a new wider, sturdier, wheelchair accessible boardwalk a few years ago. But the old one is only partially removed. It is nailed together, so we will be using crowbars, pry bars, cat's paws, and hammers to…

Garlic Mustard Pull
Join us on Saturday April 8, 1 - 3 PM removing invasive Garlic Mustard from one of our conservation lands. We want to do this in the spring before it produces seeds and spreads more. Please RSVP to Joe Holmes (Joseph.Holmes@alum.mit.edu, or 978-635-1982) so we can tell you where to meet. If we get enough response, we may split to multiple locations. Dress for the weather and bring a weeding tool.

Please join the Land Stewards on Saturday May 27 1 to 3 PM as we defend our meadows against forest succession. The town of Acton mows meadows on many of our conservation lands so we can preserve those species which require the open habitat. Unfortunately, year-by-year these meadows are shrinking because the mower is blocked from covering the whole area. This is because young trees grow up along the edge; trees fall into the meadow; and trees have branches too…

The knotweed is up and growing fast, so I want to get an early attack in. So I am scheduling a short notice Knotweed pull. Help us destroy the Japanese Knotweed growing at the Acton Canoe Launch. We will meet 2 to 4PM on Sunday May 28. Knotweed is too hard to kill, so our control plan is: Chop it to the ground several times a year, and encourage other native plants so they will shade it out. Please contact…
