Boardwalk Demolition at the Arboretum

March 18, 2017 @ 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Think it is too cold and wintery to volunteer on our Acton conservation lands? Think Again! Please join us on Saturday March 18, 1 – 3 PM to help clean up this eyesore at the Acton Arboretum. The old bog boardwalk was replaced by a new wider, sturdier, wheelchair accessible boardwalk a few years ago. But the old one is only partially removed. It is nailed together, so we will be using crowbars, pry bars, cat’s paws, and hammers to remove the decking and support beams. We will not be removing the foundation telephone pole pieces at this time. Requires boots, and balancing skills because we will be walking on the partially demolished boardwalk. Due to the chance of falling in the bog, not a good project for children. The good news is there is no poison ivy in the bog! Please call or email so I know how many to expect. Joe Holmes (Joseph.Holmes@alum.mit.edu, 978-635-1982). If the snow is too deep, I may have to cancel.
